Dear members:

In times of crisis, I’m always impressed by the commitment of credit union folks to help. A few weeks ago, when North Florida, southern Alabama, and Georgia faced the first Category 4 hurricane in their region in some time, several organizations joined together to help those impacted by the devastation. As Corporate One serves credit unions in these areas, we were part of the relief effort providing credit unions and their staff desperately needed supplies.

Corporate One personally visited the devastated areas in the days following the storm, delivering portable generators to aid credit unions in getting back up and running as quickly as possible to serve their members. “Through visiting the area, we saw firsthand that the devastation was widespread,” said Charles Harkness, SVP, Strategic Operations Officer, who helped deliver the generators. “From extreme flooding that wiped away entire neighborhoods to exposed power lines and upturned vehicles, some likened the devastation to a ‘war zone.’ It’s clear it will take months, if not longer, for the region to fully recover.”

In addition to buying and delivering 30 generators for impacted credit unions, we also provided and donated gas cans and gas; tarps, bungee cords, and duct tape; flashlights and batteries; and personal hygiene items. Our Member Experience team helped credit unions provide emergency access for their staff working remotely, and we led an effort to identify credit unions in northern and central Florida that had excess vault cash on hand that they would be willing to share with credit unions in the impacted areas.

We continue to focus on ensuring that credit union staff have what they need so their credit unions can operate as expected. As recovery efforts continue, there are ways your credit union can still help. Both LSCU’s Foundation and the National Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation) are accepting disaster relief funds to assist credit union people affected by this hurricane. Donations to CUAid through the Foundation are being used for any affected credit union employees and volunteers. If your credit union is able, we encourage your support of these credit unions and staff in need.
