Dear Members:
At Corporate One, our greatest strength lies in the talent and dedication of our people. That’s why internal promotions are more than just milestones—they’re moments of pride. We were thrilled to recently announce that Ryan Murphy has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, which was effective October 1. Ryan’s leadership journey continues as he steps into this key role, succeeding Denise Brown, who will retire in January 2026 after an impactful tenure.
With over 12 years of experience in balance sheet risk management and a deep understanding of the credit union industry, Ryan brings both strategic insight and operational excellence to his new role. His strong command of balance sheet risk management and financial planning will be instrumental in ensuring Corporate One’s financial strength and stability.
We posed the following questions to Ryan so that you can get to know him a little bit.
Melissa: Ryan, you joined Corporate One in 2013 as Director of Internal Audit. How would you describe the evolution of your career since then?
Ryan: Audit is a great place to learn in an organization. It provided me with an in-depth look at how Corporate One functions and what really drives our success. Moving into an audit leadership role allowed me to expand my understanding from finance and operations into information technology. From there, I was fortunate to move into balance sheet risk management and enhance my knowledge in relation to key financial risks to ensure our safety and soundness. I am really excited about the CFO role and the great team I get to work with every day.
Melissa: What excites you most about this new role at this point in your career?
Ryan: I am fortunate to step into this role at such an exciting time. Corporate One is in a strong financial position, and we are seeing the returns from our investments in immediate payments and technological capabilities for both us and our members. We have a great roadmap and an amazing team prepared to execute on it and deliver continued success in the future.
Melissa: How would you describe your approach to financial leadership and decision-making?
Ryan: I focus on what we can control, which, for Corporate One, is providing excellent products and services to our members in an efficient manner. Our decisions must be driven by how we can provide the most value to our members, so I will continue to view everything through that lens.
Melissa: What, in your opinion, are some of the most pressing financial challenges facing credit unions today?
Ryan: I see the two biggest challenges facing credit unions as continued consolidation within the industry and increased competition from technology providers. Neither issue appears to be slowing down, but each challenge also creates opportunities for credit unions that are well-positioned to seize on these trends.
Melissa: How do you balance financial risk management with the need to innovate and grow?
Ryan: While remaining safe and sound financially is critical, you must be willing to invest in the future to stay relevant as our industry experiences increased competition and consolidation. I plan to continue our track record of smart investments in industry-leading products and services to provide the best experiences and value to our members.
Melissa: What do you see as the most significant opportunities for Corporate One over the next few years?
Ryan: I think we are beginning to see network-effect benefits from the tremendous growth of our immediate payments products, and we are building out technology that will allow us to operate more efficiently. We have best-in-class investment and funding solutions and the financial strength needed to seize any opportunities to enhance our offerings to our members.
As we welcome Ryan to the Enterprise Leadership Team, I’m reminded of the value of investing in our people and the power of leadership that grows from within. His insights, energy, and deep understanding of our organization will be instrumental as we continue to evolve and serve our members with excellence. I’m excited for what lies ahead and confident that Ryan’s leadership will help shape a strong and innovative future for Corporate One.
